"The Old Switcharobot" is the 92nd episode of the series and the 7th(b) of Season 4 of Robotboy. In this episode, Protoboy defeats Robotboy and swaps his motherboard with Robotboy's, so that he can get to Moshimo much easier.

Synopsis[]

Robotboy’s evil brother, Protoboy, finally succeeds in laying waste to him, then sets his sites on their creator, Professor Moshimo. In order to find where the professor is hiding, Protoboy steals his brother’s body and impersonates Robotboy, knowing that Tommy will lead him to his prey. Robotboy is able to recover from Protoboy’s assault and sets out to try to save Moshimo, but to do so he must occupy the only body available to him: Protoboy’s. Can he get there in time, and if he does will anyone believe he’s really Robotboy?

Plot[]

The episode begins with Tommy pretending to flirt with Bambi when Professor Moshimo contacts him, Tommy is embarrassed and tries to explain but Moshimo doesn’t mind and says that he "was young too", he explains why he called in the first place was that he had been picking up signals that Protoboy was active again after being destroyed in "The Revenge of Protoboy" and seeks to destroy them all, Moshimo, who is currently at his Yak Ranch in Mexico, then says that he has taken precautions and made his yaks into spider/yak hybrids that can trap Protoboy with their silk. Dave is kicking one of the yaks that has fallen when Moshimo thinks that he is missing Brian Yak, much to his annoyance, Moshimo then sadly reminisces about Brian, Tommy asks if he is ok, Moshimo then says he is ok, and asks to speak to Robotboy, Tommy said he let him go to the mall with Gus, and he will tell him when he gets back. The yaks then see a fly and try to trap it, but they end up missing getting Moshimo stuck instead, Dave then starts to pull on Moshimo causing him pain as the feed ends. Tommy then wishes Robotboy would be back soon.

At the mall, Gus is in a photo booth taking photos of himself posing much to Robotboy's boredom, Protoboy then appears and the two of them fight, Protoboy gets pushed into a escalator and Superactivates and breaks out, he then shoots Robotboy with not just one, but two arm cannons, Robotboy is defeated and Protoboy prepares to blast him with his arm-gun, when Tommy calls on Robotboy to come home, Protoboy gets the idea to take Robotboy's body as that would lead him to Moshimo, he takes out his motherboard and throws it into a bin and takes out his own and puts it into Robotboy's body and cuts the wire attached to his, so he now is in Robotboy's body.

Gus who was oblivious to what was going on, finishes taking photos and comes out, he is surprised by the wrecked state of the mall but doesn't care much as he loves the photos he has, Protoboy-in-Robotboy's body demands him to take him to Tommy's house, but he says he gives the orders which leads to Protoboy grabbing him, he then lets him take them there.

They then arrive at Tommy's house, Tommy says he's glad that they are both okay.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • This episode serves as a semi-sequel to "The Legend of Brainy Yak".
  • The title is a portmanteau of "The Old Switcheroo" and "Robot".
  • This is the second time Robotboy is involved in a mind-switch, the first time was in "Robogus and the G-Machine".
  • This is the episode Protoboy comes close to completing his goals, essentially briefly succeeding in destroying Robotboy, if only for a moment and almost killing both him and Moshimo.
  • This is the first appearance of Donnie Turnbull since Vitamin Sucker, however he was mentioned in Gus's Mix and there was a trashcan dummy version of him.
  • Robotboy's old body is destroyed in this episode, he gets a new one in the next episodes.
  • When Protoboy (inside Robotboy's body) becomes crazy in the first seconds his eyes resembles the ones Robotboy had in "Rowho?"
  • The only episode involving Protoboy that was written by Dani Vetere.
  • The only episode with Dr. Kamikazi without Constantine. He appears for just a few seconds in the flashback from Professor Moshimo
  • This is the first time that Gus and Protoboy appear in the same episode in airing order, which is why Gus already knows Protoboy as he first met him in "The Revenge of Protoboy".
  • Goof: When Donnie falls into the hole, the skull from his grey shirt from series 1 re-appears on his red shirt, though it is colored black instead of white for some reason.
  • When Gus is teasing Protoboy, he's singing U.G.L.Y., a song by Daphne and Celeste.
  • Robotboy does not speak while Superactivated in Protoboy's body, possibly because he can't or chooses not to in his own SA mode. It's also interesting to note that Protoboy doesn't speak while Superactivated in Ro's body, even though he can in his own SA mode.
  • Protoboy's eyes look similar to Ro's about four times: first after Protoboy puts his motherboard into Robotboy's body and cuts it from his own, secondly before Ro's motherboard attaches to Proto's body, thirdly before Robotboy-in-Protoboy's body face palms because of Gus, and lastly when Ro Superactivated in Proto's body and his arm cannon fell out.
  • Goof: When Moshimo says "Uh oh", his mouth does not move.
  • Goof: When Protoboy flies over after breaking out of the escalator, there is smoke visible, though there was no smoke in the last shot, the smoke disappears when Protoboy fires at Robotboy.
  • Goof: When Protoboy shoots Robotboy, for the very first few frames, only the background is visible and the actual animation isn't.
  • Goof: After Protoboy blasts Robotboy, the escalator he broke out of earlier is less damaged then it was before.
  • Goof: For around 99% of the episode, Protoboy is consistently drawn with only a single line on the gold part on his legs.
  • This is the second and last time Protoboy's blaster is seen and the only time in series 2.
  • This is the last appearance of Brainy Yak and Dave.
  • This one of two times Tommy's crush on Bambi is brought up in series 2.
  • This is the episode with the most screentime for Protoboy.
